Individual Therapy
I work with clients in short-term and long-term individual therapy, and I develop treatment plans that are specific to each individual. I have substantial training and experience in providing treatment that is informed by research, and my clinical orientation pulls from cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, and insight-oriented therapy. I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, and the clients I work with are often struggling with a wide spectrum of other concerns as well.
Clients often come to me seeking help with:
Group therapy can be an excellent and cost-effective way to learn more about yourself, and is recommended for many mental health concerns. This group, in particular, brings together women who are working toward having a better understanding of themselves and who are figuring out what living well means to them. This group might be a great fit for you if you are trying to navigate relationships, family issues, or life transitions, or if you are dealing with anxiety, stress, or low self-esteem. The group will meet on Thursdays from 6:00-7:00pm in my Dupont Circle office. I find that smaller groups tend to lead to the most positive experiences, so I only accept a maximum of six members for this group. I like to speak by each potential member first by phone, and then meet for one full individual session before beginning group. It is important to me that you get the most out of group, and I find that meeting individually allows us to get to know one another and gives us time to figure out what you would like to get out of your group experience.
Other groups are offered based upon demand and interest in specific topics. Please contact me if you are interested in group therapy specifically for anxiety, ADHD, self-compassion, or personal accountability, and I will provide you with information about currently forming groups.
Couples Therapy
Couples often seek therapy to increase their connectedness, improve communication, and untangle stuck points in the relationship. When couples are in conflict, the distress this causes can bring out the worst in each partner. Therapy is a safe, supportive, non-judgmental space to explore different ways of being in your relationship and finding a dynamic that really works for you and your partner.

Clients often come to me seeking help with:
- Anxiety, stress, worry
- Sexual assault, trauma
- Sleep difficulties, insomnia
- Major life events, transitions
- Divorce, separation
- Depression
- Parenting
- Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders
- Relationship concerns
- ADHD (and partners/family/friends of those with ADHD)
- Some concerns can be tackled in just a few sessions. Short-term work involves a clear set of reasonable goals and a specific number of sessions during which we focus on making steps toward those goals. I am happy to talk with you to give you a sense of whether short-term or longer-term therapy may be more appropriate for you.
- Individual therapy is typically conducted in an open-ended manner, with no specific number of sessions. This is often preferred because clients begin therapy with one concern in mind and as they begin to feel better in that area, the therapeutic work shifts to other areas of worry or distress that the client then feels ready to address. Therapy also works best when there is a strong alliance between the therapist and client, and developing that foundation can take time.
- It is common for life to throw unexpected obstacles at us, and I remain available to my clients to provide support even months and years after therapy has ended.
